Unveiled yesterday (March 23) during ISSUE’s mesmerizing runway show at Bangkok International Fashion Week (BIFW), ISSUE, a fashion powerhouse known for its theatrics and statement pieces, and street smart URFACE, a recently resurrected urban bag brand with a penchant for tongue-in-cheeks designs, have proven that opposites do attract, and they make beautiful, beautiful babies.
Taking inspiration from ISSUE’s “Malacca” Spring/Summer 2017 collection, URFACE blends its typeface and playful positioning with the collection’s main print of a scared tiger, hibiscus, and a girl from Malacca, inspired by the unique cultural fusions of this melting pot city in Malaysia.
“We take ISSUE print and add the feeling of summer in URFACE style. We follow ISSUE’s color palettes, but our graphic is of different mood and tone, but once coupled with ISSUE print you can hardly tell them apart,” said Aruk Ornvilai, URFACE’s head of design and illustrious illustrator famed for the Mr. Penis character.
The collection yields tote bags, messenger bags, soft cases (size L and M), mini bags (size L and M), card wallet and cardholders in three colorways—black, white and red. The totes are also reversible with tiger and ISSUE embroidery works on the inside. Spotted on the runway were also surfboards and skateboards, as well as oversized weekenders, but they looked likely to be for show only.
ISSUE X URFACE collaboration comes in limited numbers and is available at a pop-up stall in Siam Center, 2nd floor, from March 25 until April 25. The collection will be available online afterwards if there are any left! Visit www.facebook.com/urfacestore for inquiries.
